#FridaySnippets 12 – More from “Boots”
This week’s #FridaySnippets is from my current WIP “Boots”. This scene is simply the introduction of Special Agent Rake. It’s further into the story than anything I’ve posted before, but still closer to the beginning than the end. FAIR WARNING: This is taken from the first creative draft (before any edits or corrections) so be ready for some rough writing! đ âI donât have time to waste on guesses. I need to KNOW what we have to work with.â âI understand completely. You just go ahead and keep hogginâ all our donuts and coffee – you selfish, overdressed fuck – and weâll continue doing all the work and making sure you get all the credit.â Thatâs what Dillard wanted to say. Instead, as one who actually appreciated the level of selfless integrity that was expected of an officer of the law⊠âI understand completely. Weâre working on nothing else at this point and will keep you updated in a timely manner.â âThatâs good to know and much appreciated. The last thing we need right now is a … Continue reading
#ThursdayWriteUp 14 – Better late than never
The struggle is finally over! I am officially “plugged in” now. How do I know that? Because I spent most of yesterday fixing things that plug in. And that is as deep as I’m going to go in order to make excuses explain why my #ThursdayWriteUp post is a day late this week. đ That said, I will leave you with another bullet list of what’s been keeping me busy so I can get to my #FridaySnippets post, hopefully, before lunch. In the last two weeks I have: Re-purposed my netbook exclusively for writing by removing all things Microsoft in favor of a couple of Linux OS’s (faster, more stable and MUCH better battery life). Gained ten pounds (again). Watched all 14 episodes of “Firefly” and the movie (a continuation of the story) “Serenity” on Netflix. Completely jacked up a groin muscle somehow. Re-purposed a scrap of 2″ x 4″ as a walking stick. Crunched numbers for one of my “secret” projects. Lost five pounds (again). Wrote/re-wrote a few scenes between my three primary fiction projects. Spent … Continue reading
ThursdayWriteUp #13 – 1/3/13 (and a week)
Wow, I just realized how cool it would have been if I had jumped back in to my #ThursdayWriteUp routine last week. “#ThursdayWriteUp #13 – 1/3/13” I KNOW! Oh well, I guess I should be happy enough that I survived the end of the world. That being the case, there’s much to do in 2013 and, sorry, no resolutions this year. This week I’ve spent most of my time sorting through all that I left alone by unplugging for the holidays. Re-organizing notes, lists and scraps with scribbles on them. I also spent about half a day attacking my email in-boxes (word of advice: If you plug in at all while on vacation, use that time to keep your “unread mail” number from climbing into the thousands). I took a little time to see what folks have posted on their social media sites and doing a bit of research for my projects. As far as the projects go, I’ve tapped out a few words this week but not enough to brag about. Most of my week was … Continue reading
#FridaySnippets 11 – Friday Writing Game
After a few weeks of “unplugging” for the holidays (and, quite frankly, not writing much at all) I had no idea what to use for my next #FridaySnippets. Thanks to Ruth Ellen Parlour for solving that issue with her idea to play a little game with #FridaySnippets this week! Here are the rules she posted on her site: Go grab a book. Any book. It doesnât even have to be fiction. Flip to a random page and pull out a line at random; it doesnât even have to be a full sentence. Write it down and for 15 mins, continue the story! Feel free to post your writing in the comments section and feel free to comment on other peopleâs or share the game on your own blog. Remember to have fun with this, itâs not a serious piece of writing so just get the juices flowing! The book I grabbed my line from is “Waking Lazarus” by T.L. Hines. [GREAT BOOK! Find it on Amazon and GoodReads] I’ve used bold type for the line from the … Continue reading
