#ThursdayWriteUp 5 – Want chips with that?

What I said last week:

“I will be back to a normal writing schedule next week.”

Two things wrong with that:

    1. The road doesn’t afford a “normal” schedule for anything.

    2. The words “back to a” shouldn’t be in that statement because that would be saying that I actually had a “normal” writing schedule at one point in my life.

That said, here’s what I’ve been up to this week:

The weekend was primarily spent trying to gain ground on non-writing commitments that have suffered because of travel, holidays and my fight against a healthy BMI. Even so, I was able to tap out a few more bullet points for “Bodies” and spent a fair amount of time staring at the wall rethinking some of the early chapters of “Boots”. In between those moments I prepared for some time on the road.

Now, I could blame my failure to reach my 12,000 word goal this week on the fact that I forgot to bring the little plastic zipper bag of real coffee to replace whatever it is they have in those little pouches in hotel rooms. Or I could blame it on the fascinating folks in the next room who apparently thought that they had found the one hotel in the world that had spent the time and money to sound-proof their rooms.

I suppose I could have just taken some antacid and popped in my ear buds and shut off both distractions. Instead, I continued to work in “holiday mode” and just let the week happen.

So, to sum it all up, during this week’s “writing time” I:

    • Ate chips & dip.
    • Did a few chapter re-writes for “Boots”.
    • Ate chips & dip.
    • Took some antacid and re-worked some of the characters in “Boots”, tossed the re-works and went back to the original versions (for now).
    • Ate chips & dip.
    • Added a few blurbs that will hopefully turn into real writing for two of my non-fiction projects.
    • Ate chips & dip.
    • Wrote a couple more songs (rough) while eating chips & dip.

And with that, it’s time for me to figure out what I’m going to post for tomorrow’s #FridaySnippets (and finish off the bottle of antacid).

What was your week like?

Let me know in the comment section below and, if you’re on Twitter, every week at the #ThursdayWriteUp. I’d love to hear from you!

Have a great week and thanks for spending time with me!

  1. Now I want chips and dip! I’m not sure I want to know what your hotel neighbours were up to so loudly. Whatever it was, it doesn’t sound much fun.

  2. G.R. Bliss says:

The sad part: By the sound of it, I don’t think THEY knew what they were up to! ;p
