#FridaySnippets 3 – More “Bodies”

I woke up this morning with “Bodies” in my head (see #FridaySnippets 1 – “Bodies”) so I poured some coffee and let my brain spill for a while. Here’s a little of that brain-spill (unedited first rough): What was he going to do when he ran out of space? Clyde had no desire to dig where he already had. Sure, there would be nothing left but bones by the time he ran out of new spots, but who wants to dig through that? Especially when he would have to dig deeper to make sure they stayed where they were put. That was it. He would have to start digging deeper. Another thing that worried him was the chance of somebody finding the bodies before he did. Nobody came that far into the property earlier than sunrise, and he was always awake and out on the porch by then. But what if? There was a gate at the end of his drive, but it was more for looks than to keep anyone out. Closing it only kept polite … Continue reading

#FridaySnippet 2 – Coming from Bliss – Charity

This week’s snippet comes from one of my current non-fiction WIP, “Coming from Bliss”. It’s from the chapter “Charity” that originally started as a short essay that I wrote a while back. You might be one who will faithfully send that check when your favorite 501(c)(3) sends you a post card. Or… maybe you’re one who believes that charity only breeds dependency. A firm believer in the “Teach a man to fish…” school of thought. The question that brings to my mind is: Are any … Continue reading

#FridaySnippets 1 – “Bodies”

For my first “official” #FridaySnippets snippet I’m posting the first brain-spill of a new idea. So far I see it as, most likely, a short story when I’m through with it but we all know how these things sometimes turn out. 😉 Okay, enough “blah blah blah”. Here’s what I am calling, for now, “Bodies”: Clyde sat on his front porch with his legs crossed and lit his first cigarette of the day. It was such a beautiful place to live. The hills, the trees, the wildlife and a little creek running through the middle of it all. Paradise. Except for the bodies. Not every morning, but definitely most mornings he would wake up and they were there. Sometimes they were just lying there as if they were asleep. That wasn’t so bad. No mess to clean up. Just carry the body away to dispose of it. It was much less fun when he had to look around for body parts and pull the hose around to wash down the “dump site”. That was what they called … Continue reading
