Have you ever wondered if you were destined to be a famous writer? Or, at least, what writers you would be compared to when you do become famous? I have.
Lately, on Facebook, Google+ and Twitter, I’ve seen a few posts that started with “I write like…” and I finally couldn’t take it anymore, so I clicked the link.
It went to the website called (go figure) “I Write Like“. I also did a search for articles about the site and came up with more than I expected. A few examples are:
- Wikipedia
- “Unlikely Words” (Blog article)
- “The Guardian” (Under Culture/Books/Books Blog)
Also listed (#5 in the search results!) was the post that prompted me to finally click to the site:
- Felicia Wetzig’s Google+ post about the site
And a Q&A with the author of the software for the “I Write Like” site:
- A Q&A with the Creator of “I Write Like”: “The Algorithm is Not a Rocket Science”
To quote the official “I Write Like” Facebook page:
“I Write Like checks what famous writer you write like by analyzing your word choice and writing style and comparing them to those of the famous writers.”
So… with a fresh cup of coffee and barely one eye open I got sucked dove in.
I decided I would draw from the contents of my blog (one post at a time, of course) to see who “I Write Like”. Here are my results:
- “TOM” – I write like Rudyard Kipling
- “BOOTS” – I write like H. P. Lovecraft
- “KILLING CLAUSE” – I write like Stephen King
- “ARMOTH RIDGE” – I write like Vladimir Nabokov
- “Write by Numbers” – I Write like Arthur Clarke
- “Adversity or Inspiration?” – I write like H. P. Lovecraft
- “Writing – GAME ON!” – **I write like Cory Doctorow
- “Personal Writing Challenge” – I write like H. P. Lovecraft
- “Writer’s Voice or Voices?” – I write like Dan Brown
- “WRITING TWO WORDS FOR A DOLLAR?” – I write like H. P. Lovecraft
- “Writer, Do You Know Your Job Description?” – I write like Cory Doctorow
- “@Jeff Goins – Creating another monster” – I write like H. P. Lovecraft
Wow! I’m destined to be famous! (and RICH!)
Alright, I’m not so sure I would use it as a way to promote myself as a writer, but it’s an interesting little time-killer when I need a few laughs (or an ego boost).
That said, I want to make it clear that I am not affiliated in any way with the “I Write Like” site. I am not getting paid for promoting them. I do not know and have never met anyone associated with the site. I am not recommending the site as way to legitimately analyze writing, blah, blah, blah, disclaimer blurb, blah…
We’re just having fun here today, got it?
Okay, so here’s my challenge for you today:
- Pick at least one of MY “I Write Like” results to read.
- Let me know how much you agree or disagree with the “I Write Like” results by leaving a comment below.
That’s it!
If you do that and have also submitted something of yours, let me know and I’ll do the same with your results.
If nothing else, we’re bound to have a little fun and maybe discover or revisit a writer we’ve neglected in the past.
Looking forward and thanks for spending time with me today!
