What are you?
If you think, you’re a thinker. If you write, you’re a writer. If you write about thinking, you’re a philosopher. If you think about writing, you’re stalling.
Site Building (almost) – Day 3
It’s day 3 of my new site building adventure and I’m at it again. No promises about any visible changes to the site other than this post. It’s a designated partial day off so I will be letting my laptop enjoy some lower internal temperatures for a few hours today. Heck, I may even force my handy little smart phone to be dumb for the day. I will, however, be “braining” at some level all day. It’s a bit difficult to shut down when I’m excited about something and, like I said in my post yesterday… this is fun! Anyway, this post is not about that, but I wanted to at least give you an update on my progress just in case you were sitting in front of your monitor gnawing your fingernails down to your second knuckle in anticipation. What is truly on my mind today is a bit of appreciation for my life. Specifically, for where I am now. Today. This very minute. There is nothing particularly newsworthy, or for that matter, much different from any … Continue reading
Site Building – Day 2
This is my second day working on this site (or am I just playing with plug-ins and widgets? Hm.) and I’m getting pretty excited. If you’ve read the “about me” page, you’re already aware that I’ve pretty much earned tenure in the digital world at this point. No, I’m not a $µp3r-£337 or an uber-geek, but I have spent plenty of time pushing, pulling, twisting and cussing digital dna over the years. And, though I’m not a hard-core… yes, I like Star Trek (And to answer the inevitable query: Kirk… I’m old). Enough about the sexy part of me. The only reason I brought up my geek side is that, even though I assumed I would be up and running in a couple of hours with my new site… [insert “A.D.H.D./O.C.D justification” here]. So, I’m on day two and still playing with WordPress. And, though I still tend to write most of my code in text editors instead of “WYSIWYG” editors and the like, I’m having fun with this! I hate to admit it, but I’ve not … Continue reading
A while back…
I started writing a piece on “charity” that was only supposed to be about two thousand words or so long. However, once I got started, I realized that there was much more to say than what would fit in that few words. As most people who are close to me know, I have a tendency to ramble a bit in conversations, so this is a common happening, even in writing. The original title for the essay was “Charity”. But once I started travelling down that road, I realized that there was much more than “Charity” going on in my head. So many things are connected to the subject and can’t possibly be approached, with respect, if not given their own space and focus. That said, I am embarking on a journey through the social, ethical, and moral landscape that we create when we embrace words like charity and attempt to use them in both thought and practice, whether we truly understand what they mean. Or better yet, whether we are doing so according to the original meaning of … Continue reading
